G95 White Globe — Size, diffusion quality & where it works best
The G95 is the largest globe in the standard residential range — at 95mm diameter, it is noticeably larger than the G80 and significantly larger than a standard A60. The white glass envelope is the defining feature: unlike clear glass filament bulbs where the light source is visible, the white glass diffuses the LED completely, producing a smooth, even glow across the entire surface of the globe. There is no visible chip, no hotspot, and no directional bias — the bulb itself becomes a soft, luminous sphere. This makes the G95 white globe particularly effective in fittings where the bulb is the visual centrepiece: open pendant drops, table lamps without shades, and floor lamps with exposed sockets. What is the difference between the G95 white globe and a clear G80 filament globe?

The G80 clear filament has a transparent glass envelope — the filament is visible and creates a warm, decorative point of light. The G95 white glass has an opaque white envelope — the LED is completely hidden and the entire globe surface glows evenly. Choose G80 clear filament if you want the filament to be a visible design element; choose G95 white if you want a smooth, diffused glow with no visible source. The G95 is also larger (95mm vs 80mm).
Is 5W / 249 lm bright enough for a bedside lamp?

249 lm is a soft, ambient output — comfortable for a bedside lamp used for atmosphere and light reading. It is not bright enough for sustained close-up reading or task work. If you need more brightness from a bedside lamp, consider a higher-lumen bulb from our range. For ambient and decorative use, 249 lm at 2700–3000K is a pleasant, relaxed light level.
Will the G95 fit inside a standard drum or empire lampshade?

The G95 is 95mm in diameter — wider than most standard bulbs. It will fit inside larger drum and empire shades, but may not fit inside narrow or tight-fitting shades. Measure the internal opening of your shade before ordering. In an open-top lamp or a lamp without a shade, the G95 globe is fully visible and the white glass creates a clean, sculptural look.
Does the white glass affect the colour temperature of the light?
