What's the difference between fairy lights and festoon lights?

Fairy lights use many small, fine LED bulbs on a thin wire — better for a soft, twinkling look indoors or draped over small features. Festoon lights use larger, more visible bulbs spaced further apart on a thicker cable — better suited to patios and outdoor entertaining where you want a warmer, statement look.

Can festoon lights be left outside all year in Ireland?

IP44-rated festoon lights can generally stay up year-round, but it's worth disconnecting the plug end during heavy storms and checking connectors periodically for water ingress. The bulbs themselves are the most exposed part and are usually the first to need replacing.

Do solar fairy lights work as well as plug-in ones in Ireland?
