G80 Frosted Globe — Diffused light, glare-free & where it works best

The key difference between this G80 and a clear filament bulb is the frosted glass envelope. Where a clear bulb shows the filament and creates a point of bright light, the G80’s opal diffuser spreads the light evenly across the entire globe surface — no hotspot, no glare, no visible LED chip. This makes it the better choice for fittings at eye level (bedside lamps, wall sconces, table lamps with open tops) where a bare filament would be uncomfortable to look at directly. At 5W and 249 lm, this is a soft accent bulb — equivalent in brightness to roughly a 35–40W incandescent. It suits bedrooms, hallways, and decorative fittings where atmosphere takes priority over raw output. For rooms needing functional task lighting, pair it with a higher-lumen source.

Warm white (2700–3000K) gives a relaxed, amber-toned glow ideal for living rooms and bedrooms. Cool white (6000–6500K) is sharper and more energising — better for home offices or utility spaces where you want clarity without the harshness of a bare LED. This bulb is not dimmable — do not use with a dimmer switch. Installation is a direct E27 screw-in replacement, no tools required. Common questions

What is the difference between this frosted G80 and a clear filament globe?

+

A clear filament bulb shows the LED filament and creates a warm, visible point of light — great for exposed pendants where the bulb is part of the aesthetic. The frosted G80 diffuses the light across the entire glass surface, eliminating glare and the visible chip. Choose frosted if the bulb will be at eye level or in a fitting where direct glare would be uncomfortable; choose clear filament if you want the decorative filament effect.

Is 5W bright enough for a bedside lamp or table lamp?

+

Yes — for a bedside lamp used for reading or ambient light, 249 lm at 2700K is a comfortable level. It is equivalent to roughly a 35–40W incandescent. If you need brighter task lighting from a table lamp (e.g. for a desk or craft work), consider a higher-wattage E27 LED from our range.

Will this bulb fit inside a closed lampshade?

+

The G80 is 80mm in diameter — wider than a standard A60 bulb. Check the internal diameter of your shade before ordering. Most standard drum and empire shades accommodate a G80 comfortably, but tight-fitting or narrow shades may not. The frosted finish means the shade material will glow evenly rather than showing a bright spot through the fabric.

Can I use this bulb in a bathroom wall light?

+

This bulb is rated IP20 — suitable for dry indoor areas only. For bathroom use, the fitting must provide the required IP protection (IP44 minimum for zone 2, IP65 for zone 1). If your bathroom fitting is IP44 or higher and fully encloses the bulb, a standard IP20 bulb inside it is generally acceptable — but always check the fitting manufacturer’s guidance.

Does the frosted glass affect the colour temperature?

+

No — the frosted coating diffuses the light but does not alter the colour temperature. Warm white (2700–3000K) will still read as warm and amber-toned; cool white (6000–6500K) will still be crisp and blue-toned. The diffuser simply softens the light distribution, eliminating the bright point source effect of a clear bulb.
