Gold & Clear Glass — Glamour Without Excess
The combination of gold metal and clear glass is one of the most enduring in decorative lighting — it works because each material amplifies the other. The gold frame catches and reflects light; the clear glass shades diffuse it softly without blocking it, creating a warm, layered glow across the room rather than a single bright point. At Ø95cm, this chandelier has genuine presence — it is proportionate over a dining table of 160–200cm and will anchor a large living room or open-plan space without effort. The H55cm fixed drop is an important practical detail: unlike adjustable pendants, the height cannot be changed after installation. Measure from your ceiling to the desired bottom-of-fitting position before ordering — for a dining table, that is typically 210–220cm from the floor (70–80cm above the table surface at standard 75cm table height). If your ceiling height does not allow this clearance with a fixed 55cm drop, this fitting is not the right choice for that position. For a living room used as ambient overhead lighting rather than task lighting, a higher position is acceptable. Use small E27 globe or candle LEDs at 2700K for the warmest, most glamorous result through the clear glass shades.
This is a hardwired fitting — a qualified electrician is required for installation. There is no switch on the fitting; control is via your wall switch. The frame is fixed in position: non-tiltable, non-rotatable. IP20 rated — suitable for dining rooms, living rooms, and bedrooms, but not for bathrooms or any area exposed to moisture. The gold finish is a lacquered effect on metal — it will not tarnish naturally, but avoid abrasive cleaners which can dull the surface. Common Questions
The drop is fixed at 55cm — how do I know if it will work in my room?
+
Measure your ceiling height, then subtract 55cm (the fitting height) and the depth of the ceiling rose canopy (typically 5–10cm). The result is the distance from the floor to the bottom of the fitting. For a dining table, you need this to be at least 210–220cm (70–80cm above a standard 75cm table). For a living room used as ambient lighting, 200cm from the floor is acceptable. If the calculation does not work for your ceiling height, this fixed-drop fitting is not suitable for that position.
Is Ø95cm too large for a standard dining room?
+
For a dining table of 160–200cm length, Ø95cm is well-proportioned — the chandelier covers the table without overhanging the edges. For a smaller table (under 140cm), it may feel oversized as a centrepiece. In a large open-plan living and dining space, Ø95cm reads correctly at scale. The key check is ceiling height: this fitting needs at least 270–280cm of ceiling clearance to hang at the correct dining height without feeling low.
What bulbs give the best effect through clear glass shades?
+
Because the shades are clear glass, the bulb is fully visible. Small globe E27 LEDs (G45 or G80) with a visible filament at 2700K give the most glamorous result — the warm amber glow through the glass creates a soft, layered light that complements the gold frame. Candle-shaped E27 LEDs also work well for a more classic look. Avoid frosted or cool-white bulbs: frosted hides the filament effect, and cool white (4000K+) clashes with the warm gold finish.
Will the gold finish tarnish or discolour over time?
+
This is a gold-effect lacquered finish on metal — not solid brass or gold leaf. It will not tarnish naturally the way raw brass does. The lacquer protects the finish in normal indoor conditions. Avoid abrasive cleaners or metal polishes, which can strip the lacquer and dull the surface. Wipe with a dry or slightly damp soft cloth. Once installed at ceiling height, the fitting is rarely touched, so maintenance is minimal.
Are the glass shades fragile — what happens if one breaks?
+
Glass shades are more fragile than metal or fabric during handling and installation — take care when unpacking and fitting. Once installed at ceiling height, they are not at risk of everyday knocks. If a shade breaks after installation, contact us — we can advise on replacement options. The fitting will continue to function with a missing shade, but the aesthetic will be uneven until it is replaced.
