Copper pipe, rigid drop, eight lengths

Unlike a flex pendant, the copper pipe is rigid — it does not swing or move once installed. The pipe drops vertically from the canopy and the socket sits at the bottom, with the bulb pointing downward. The rigid drop gives the fitting a more architectural, industrial quality than a cable pendant. The shorter lengths (6–12 in / 15–30 cm) suit standard ceiling heights in kitchens and living rooms. The longer lengths (24–60 in / 61–152 cm) are designed for high-ceilinged rooms, stairwells, and double-height spaces where a short pendant would look undersized or fail to bring the light down to a useful level. Because the bulb is fully exposed, the shape and colour temperature of the bulb are the primary design decision.

Over a kitchen island, hang the bulb at 70–80 cm above the worktop. Over a dining table, 65–75 cm above the table surface. In a stairwell or double-height space, measure the drop from the ceiling to the desired bulb position before selecting a pipe length. A bulb is not included by default — select a bulb option above if you want one included. Browse the full pendant lights collection or read our pendant lights for kitchen islands guide.

Common questions

Which pipe length should I choose?

+

Measure from your ceiling to the height where you want the bulb to sit, then subtract the canopy depth (~3 cm). Over a kitchen island or dining table: bulb at 70–80 cm above the surface is standard. In a living room: bulb at 150–160 cm from the floor. In a stairwell or double-height space: measure the full drop and select accordingly — the 36 in, 48 in, or 60 in options are designed for these situations. If in doubt, go longer — the pipe cannot be extended after manufacture.

What bulb works best with this fitting?

+

Because there is no shade, the bulb is fully visible — the shape matters. A 40W Vintage filament bulb produces a warm amber glow at 2200K that complements the copper pipe. Globe bulbs (Clear or Frost) give a rounder, more diffuse light. A 60W Tube bulb produces a more linear, industrial look that suits the pipe aesthetic. Max 60 W.

Can I hang multiple pendants from the same ceiling point?

+

Each pendant requires its own ceiling rose and wiring point. Over a kitchen island, three pendants evenly spaced at 60–80 cm apart is a common configuration — each needs a separate spur or loop from the consumer unit. Your electrician can advise on the most efficient routing. Order all pendants at the same time to ensure consistent pipe length and colour.

Do I need an electrician to install this pendant?

+

Yes — this fitting must be hardwired to the mains by a qualified, registered electrician. The 13 cm universal canopy fits standard ceiling roses. If a rose and loop are already in place, installation is typically under an hour.

Can I use this pendant outdoors or in a bathroom?

+

No — this fitting has no IP rating and is designed for indoor dry areas only. It is not suitable for outdoor use, bathrooms, or any space where moisture or humidity is present. For bathroom use, a fitting rated IP44 or higher is required. For outdoor use, IP65 or higher.
