Dusk sensor, 8 modes, solar — three features that remove decisions
The dusk sensor is the most practical feature on this string: it removes the need to switch the lights on and off manually each evening. Once installed and charged, the lights activate automatically when ambient light drops below a threshold at dusk and switch off at dawn. This is the correct behaviour for a garden or terrace string that is meant to be on every evening without requiring attention. The 8 lighting modes give control over the character of the light — steady for a consistent, atmospheric glow; twinkle for a gentle, animated effect; flash for event and festive use. The mode is set via the control button on the solar panel unit and is retained between sessions on models with a memory function. Solar operation means no cable run from the house, no outdoor socket required, and no electricity cost — the panel charges during daylight and the battery stores enough energy for up to 8 hours of use. IP44 covers rain and splashing water, which is the minimum required for permanent outdoor installation in an exposed garden position.
The 4 size options allow the string to be matched to the installation: 20 LEDs (3.9m) for a small balcony railing or window frame; 50 LEDs for a garden fence panel or small tree; 100 LEDs for a pergola beam or medium hedge; 200 LEDs for a large tree, long fence run, or full garden perimeter. At 10cm LED spacing, the density gives a consistent line of light rather than isolated points. For colour choice: Warm White gives the most versatile, atmospheric result for everyday use; White gives a crisper, cooler tone; the coloured options (Blue, Green, Pink, Lilac, Red) suit seasonal, festive, and event decoration. Common questions
How do I change the lighting mode?
+
The mode selector button is on the solar panel unit. Press it to cycle through the 8 available modes: steady, twinkle, flash, and additional effects. Set the mode before mounting the panel if access will be difficult once installed. On models with a memory function, the last selected mode is retained when the lights switch off and back on.
Which size should I choose for my garden?
+
As a guide: 20 LEDs (3.9m) suits a small balcony railing, window frame, or compact indoor display. 50 LEDs suits a garden fence panel, small tree, or medium shelf display. 100 LEDs suits a pergola beam, medium hedge, or larger tree. 200 LEDs suits a large tree, long fence run, or full garden perimeter. If you are unsure, go one size up — a longer string can always be looped or doubled back.
Will these work in overcast or cloudy weather?
+
The solar panel charges in diffuse daylight as well as direct sun, but at a lower rate. On heavily overcast days, charge time will be longer and run time shorter than the stated maximums. The 6-hour charge / 8-hour run figures are based on full sun. In mixed weather, expect 4–6 hours of run time. Position the solar panel in the sunniest available spot, facing south if possible, and clear of shade from trees or buildings.
