Large Industrial Pendant — Rope Detail, Wide Coverage, Dining Room Scale
The brown rope detail against the black metal frame is the defining visual element of this pendant — it softens the industrial aesthetic and introduces a natural texture that works well in spaces mixing metal with wood or linen. At Ø80cm, this is a large-format fitting suited to dining tables of 180cm or more, or as a solo centrepiece in an open-plan kitchen-living area. The shade directs light downward and cannot be tilted. Height is adjusted at installation by shortening the cable; confirm the final drop with your electrician before they leave. For a dining table, the bottom of the shade should sit 70–80cm above the surface — at a standard 240cm ceiling, that means a drop of 90–100cm from ceiling to shade bottom, well within the 110cm maximum. We recommend a filament-style LED E27 at 2700K to complement the warm rope tones; a globe or oversized Edison bulb will be visible from below and adds character.
In rooms with lower ceilings (220cm or less), calculate the drop carefully — at 110cm maximum, the shade bottom would sit at 110cm from the floor, which is too low for a circulation area. Position it directly above a fixed surface (dining table, kitchen island) where head clearance is not required. It is a hardwired fitting requiring a qualified electrician. Not suitable for bathrooms or outdoor use (IP20). Browse our full pendant lights collection or read our interior lighting tips for placement advice.
Common Questions
Is Ø80cm the right size for my dining table?
+
Ø80cm works well as a single pendant over a dining table of 180–220cm. For a rule of thumb, the shade diameter should be roughly one-third to one-half the table width. For longer tables, two smaller pendants spaced evenly often give better coverage than one large one.
Will the rope detail fade or deteriorate over time?
+
Natural rope fibres can loosen or discolour slightly over time in humid environments. For kitchens with high steam exposure, ensure adequate ventilation. The rope is a decorative element and does not carry electrical load — it can be replaced or wrapped if it deteriorates.
What bulb do you recommend for this pendant?
+
A filament-style LED E27 at 2700K, maximum 50W equivalent. The warm amber tone complements the brown rope and black metal. A globe or oversized Edison bulb visible from below adds to the industrial-rustic character. Avoid cool white bulbs (4000K+).
Does this require an electrician to install?
+
Yes — this is a hardwired fitting. A qualified electrician must connect it to the ceiling circuit. There is no plug-in option. If there is no existing ceiling rose at the desired location, a new circuit point will be required.
Can I use this pendant in a low-ceiling room?
+
In rooms with ceilings below 220cm, the maximum 110cm drop leaves only 110cm of clearance — too low for a circulation area. Position it directly above a fixed surface (dining table, island) where no one walks underneath, and shorten the cable to raise the shade to a safe height.
