Choosing the right wattage, colour temperature, and finish
The three variables — wattage, colour temperature, and finish — are independent choices that each affect a different aspect of the result. Wattage determines output: 5W suits a small hallway or accent position; 9W and 12W cover standard bedroom and living room ceiling positions; 15W and 18W suit larger rooms or positions where the fitting is the primary light source rather than one of several. Colour temperature determines the quality of light: Cool White (5500–6500K) is a bright, crisp daylight tone suited to kitchens, bathrooms, and workspaces where clarity and focus matter; Warm White (2800–3500K) is a softer, more amber tone suited to living rooms and bedrooms where atmosphere matters more than task performance. Finish determines the visual presence of the fitting in the ceiling: White disappears into a white ceiling; Silver reads as a clean, modern detail; Gold adds warmth and a decorative note that suits interiors with brass or warm-toned hardware.
The integrated LED means no bulb replacement is required for the 30,000-hour rated life — at 8 hours per day, that is over 10 years of use. Flicker-free output reduces eye strain in rooms used for extended periods. Tool-free installation means the fitting clips into a standard recessed ceiling cutout without additional fixings. IP20 is rated for dry indoor locations only — not suitable for bathrooms or outdoor use. Browse the full Ceiling Lights collection or read our ceiling lighting guide.
Common questions
Does this need an electrician to install?
+
The fitting itself clips into a recessed ceiling cutout without tools. However, connecting it to the mains circuit requires a qualified electrician if you are making a new ceiling connection. If you are replacing an existing recessed fitting on an existing circuit, the swap is straightforward and does not require an electrician in most cases. Read our first-fix lighting checklist for guidance.
Which wattage should I choose for my room?
+
As a general guide: 5W suits small spaces or accent positions (hallway, alcove, under-cabinet); 9W suits a standard bedroom or small living room with multiple fittings; 12W suits a medium room or a position where the fitting is one of two or three; 15W and 18W suit larger rooms or positions where the fitting is the primary or sole light source. If you are replacing an existing fitting, match the wattage to the original or go one step up for more output.
Can I use this in a bathroom?
+
No — this fitting is rated IP20, which means it is suitable for dry indoor locations only. Bathrooms require a minimum of IP44 for zone 2 (outside the bath/shower area) and IP65 for zone 1 (directly above the bath or shower). Do not install this fitting in a bathroom, wet room, or any location exposed to moisture or steam.
