Spider Pendant — Sculptural Impact, Warm Cluster Light, Scalable by Room Size
The spider format works as a sculptural centrepiece rather than a primary light source — the 4 W cap per socket is a hard limit, so total output depends entirely on the number of arms and bulb choice. For the warmest, most atmospheric result, use small filament LED bulbs at 2700 K (E27, max 4 W each); globe or teardrop shapes work best visually with the open spider structure. The 1.5 m cables are adjustable, allowing each arm to be set at a different height for a cascading effect — this is done during installation and is not easily changed afterwards. The fitting is hardwired, so a qualified electrician is required. Choose the arm count based on room size: 5–6 arms for a compact dining area or bedroom, 8–10 for a standard living room, 12–14 for large open-plan spaces or double-height ceilings.
Centred over a dining table or in the middle of a living room, this pendant draws the eye upward and creates a warm, layered glow rather than a single bright point. It is not suited to low ceilings (under 2.4 m) as the cascading cables need vertical clearance. Browse the full pendant lights collection or read our home lighting ideas guide to plan your layout.
Common questions
Which arm count should I choose for my room?
+
As a guide: 5–6 arms suits a compact dining area, bedroom, or small living room. 8–10 arms works well in a standard living room or open-plan kitchen-diner. 12–14 arms is best for large open-plan spaces, double-height ceilings, or rooms where you want a dramatic sculptural statement. More arms also means more total light output, since each socket takes up to 4 W.
Why is the maximum wattage only 4 W per socket?
+
The individual cable and socket assembly is rated for a maximum of 4 W to prevent overheating. Modern filament LED bulbs at 4 W produce a warm, attractive glow — sufficient for ambient and accent lighting. If you need more output, choose a variant with more arms rather than exceeding the per-socket limit.
Can I adjust the cable lengths after installation?
+
The 1.5 m cables can be adjusted during installation to create a cascading or staggered effect. Once the fitting is hardwired and the cables are set, adjusting them afterwards would require an electrician to revisit the installation. It is worth planning the drop heights carefully before the electrician completes the job.
Does this pendant work with a dimmer switch?
+
The pendant has no built-in dimmer. Dimming is possible if you use dimmable E27 LED bulbs (max 4 W each) and a compatible wall dimmer switch. Always verify bulb and dimmer compatibility before purchasing — mismatched combinations can cause flickering or early bulb failure.
Is this pendant suitable for low ceilings?
+
This pendant is best suited to ceilings of 2.4 m or higher. The 1.5 m cables need vertical clearance to hang properly and create the cascading effect. On very low ceilings, the cables would need to be bunched up significantly, which reduces the visual impact and may not be safe. For low ceilings, a flush or semi-flush fitting would be a better choice.
