What's the minimum ceiling clearance for a pendant-style ceiling light?

For a standard 2.4m Irish ceiling, aim to leave at least 2m of headroom below the fitting in any walkway area. Semi-flush lights with a shallow drop are the safer choice if you're at all close to that limit — see our clearance guide for the full breakdown.
Can I put a ceiling light in a bathroom?

Yes, but check the IP rating against the bathroom zone you're fitting it in — IP44 is fine outside the direct splash zone, while over a bath or shower you'll need IP65. Several fittings in this collection, like our brass globe and schoolhouse lights, are IP44 rated.
Flush or semi-flush — what's actually the difference?

Flush mount sits directly against the ceiling with no gap. Semi-flush drops a few centimetres below the ceiling, which usually gives a wider light spread and a bit more visual presence — a good middle ground between flush and a full pendant.
